The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

Congrats to Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book
for winning the Newbery Award!

I recently read The Graveyard Book, and I really enjoyed it. I highly recommend it but feel that it is geared toward older audiences. Like, Coraline this book has a very eerie, dark, creepy feel to it. I was hooked from the very first sentence, and I couldn't wait to solve the mystery-- why did Jack want to murder Bod's entire family?!

I enjoyed the descriptions of everyday life in the graveyard and Bod's ghost family. Gaiman set the atmosphere and developed the characters well. I really liked Silas and Liza Hempstock. And, I found that I had quite the soft-spot for Miss Lepescu even though Bod did not particulary like her at first! I totally saw that "Jacks of all trades" thing coming...

Overall, it was a really quick and enjoyable read. Have you read The Graveyard Book? If so, share your thoughts on it here!

This book is defiantly worth reading; it grips you from the first page and never let’s go. I know that sound so cliché but it is true, once you read how Nobody came to live in a graveyard and raised by ghosts you want to know more. I loved the Jacks…group of men all named Jack (the Jack of all trades) there is a Jack be Nimble, Jack be Quick, Jack in the Box, Jack Frost…well you get the idea. I don’t want to ruin the book for any would be readers so just go to the library and check it out. I will say this though I do hope there is a sequel.

Oh! And I should add that Neil Gaiman mentioned on the Today Show (back in January)that The Graveyard Book will be made into a movie. Can't wait!

Has there ever BEEN a better first sentence for a book?!?

Rae and Princess, I really enjoyed The Graveyard Book too. I loved reading about the rules and workings of the graveyard.
