Twilight: The Movie
So, I know that all of you Twilight fans are excited about the movie, which comes out Friday! Since this is a blog about books and Twilight is based on the novel by Stephenie Meyer, I thought that this would be a great place to discuss the movie and to compare it to the book. Let us know what you thought. Here are some questions to think about and help get the discussion started: Were the characters cast well? Does Robert Pattinson make a convincing Edward? Does Kristen Stewart make a good Bella? What did you think of the soundtrack/movie score; did it help set the scenes? What was your favorite part of the movie/book? What were you most excited about seeing on screen? Were there parts of the novel that you felt should have been included in the movie but weren't? Which did you like better: the book or movie? Are you excited to see the rest of the series made into movies?

I went to the midnight premiere of Twilight. The cast was okay; they grew on me over the course of the movie. Robert Pattison and Kristen Stewart were cute together and played their parts well. I liked Charlie. As a matter of fact he was one of my favorite parts of the entire movie (loved his pepper spray lines!). I especially liked the hunting vampires, their windblown looks, and really liked Victoria's background music.
The movie score was great. It really added to the atmosphere of the movie and set the scenes well. I like that both the music and film had an overall very dark feel. I listened to samples of the movie soundtrack online. Wasn't too fond of it. Many of the songs seemed too "techno-y" or just not appropriate for Edward and Bella--too upbeat. They are supposed to have a tragically doomed love, after all...
My favorite part of the book was the dance studio/ambush attack(super exciting), and I was surprised at how un-exciting the movie made it out to be. The special effects (Edward running with Bella, jumping from tree to tree, vampire baseball) could have been really awesome throughout the movie, but they fell short.
Overall, though, I thought that they movie was really funny, which was a very nice surprise!
I went to the midnight premier and overall enjoyed it. However, I went in with very low expectations. It seems every book I love gets butchered when it gets made into a movie. I assumed the same would happen with Twilight, especially once I saw the cast. Sorry if I offend but Robert Pattinson is NOT what I envisioned Edward to look like. Kristen Stewart was closer to my vision but still not what I thought Bella should be. That being said Robert redeemed himself by the end of the movie, he still isn’t the Edward in my head but I like him now. Kristen on the other hand I just don’t know, she seems whiny and Bella is such a strong, opinionated, headstrong character.
The Vamps seemed a little paler than I imagined but it added to the dark and “haunted” look the film seemed to be going for (though why Carlisle seemed to get a extra hit of vampire face powder I don’t know) I loved the casting for Esme, Alice, Emmet and even Jasper. I just wish there had been time for more character development with all the characters not just Edward and Bella.
The cinematography was not great, at times it looked like something anyone could do with a camera and the right lighting. There were way too many close-ups of everyone.
And its pretty obvious they saved money by skimping on the special effects. The way Edward runs and climbs trees looks really cartoonish, not at all the power and grace as described in the book.
On a plus side it had lots of humor, especially for anyone who read the books and understood what was really going on. Like the way Edward reacts when he first sees Bella, and you got to love the stink eye Billy gives Edward as they drive past one another.
All things considered it was fun to watch and I would happily sit down to watch it a few more times. So what can I say except “When does New Moon come out?”
I saw Twilight and I must unpopularly say that I was kind of disappointed. The initial distraction was that the makeup wasn't consistent making the vampires look either too pale and obviously made up or not noticeably pale at all. Jacob Black seemed miscast to me and his hair extensions or wig or whatever it was looked bad too. I had high hopes for some fantastic cinematography in the mirrored room, but it was nothing special and I had highest hopes for the run through the woods and that also disappointed. I hope the next one will be better. And Robert Pattinson has huge caterpillar eyebrows.
